Goldjungs
Cologne in the 70s. It could hardly be any better for Iwan Herstatt and his bank. Above all, a group of young foreign exchange traders ensures excellent balance sheets. It is no coincidence that they are called "golden boys". When Marie Breuer, who came from a humble background, got a job as a secretary in the bank thanks to the intercession of Irene Gerling - wife of Herstatt's financially strong childhood friend Hans Gerling - she entered a world that was new to her. At first Marie still had hopes that her boss Ferdinand von Broustin could have a serious romantic interest in her. That turns out to be a mistake, but she does not mourn long: She succumbs to the temptations of the golden boys - and especially the charm of her glamorous leader Mick Sommer. The only one who doesn't want to watch the goings-on with the golden boys is accountant Uwe Lennartz. Stunned, he observes how the speculations of the foreign exchange dealers are becoming more and more daring and simple employees of the bank employ ever larger sums. However, nobody wants to hear his warnings, not even bank director Herstatt. After all, Marie also participates in the speculation and not only takes her own money for it, but also all of her mother's savings. When the rate of the US dollar did not develop as the gold boys expected, hoped and bet because of the oil crisis, this had dramatic consequences. Herstatt's secretary Birgit Pütz lost 15 million marks in one fell swoop. Finally, accountant Lennartz informs the Federal Banking Supervisory Office. Its auditor gets down to work very quickly, but he does not penetrate the fraudulent system either. The processes in the respected private bank are becoming more and more absurd. Marie, however, keeps a cool head and sets everything in motion to save herself and her mother from financial ruin. The only question is: will it get ahead of the big crash?
